How to Join a Ministry

At Owosso First United Methodist Church, we are committed to providing a variety of ministry opportunities to help our members grow in their faith and utilize their spiritual gifts. If you are interested in being part of one of the ministries listed below, please contact our office by sending us an email or calling us at (989) 725-2201.

Men's Group

The men meet on the first Saturday of every month at 8:30 am for breakfast and fellowship at the Owosso First United Methodist Church in the Café. You do not have to be a member of the United Methodist Church to attend.

Women's Circle

All women are welcome to attend meetings and events, which are held at least quarterly. At least one meeting per year includes a guest speaker from the community to share their mission or ministry story with the Circle and guests from other area churches. J.O.Y.ful Beginnings book study meets the 3rd Monday each month at 1:00 p.m. The Women’s Retreat in March focuses on strengthening our faith and fellowship with our members and friends. Proceeds from our annual rummage sale in April helps support local and global missions and ministries selected by the Circle members. A picnic in July includes projects that support ministries of the church. The Circle organizes collection of personal care products each fall to share with students in the Owosso Schools. Items collected on the Mitten Tree in November and December are donated to the Salvation Army for distribution. The December meeting is a potluck, followed by preparing Christmas gift bags for our homebound members.

Family Ministry

Family ministries are focused on building strong families that have a firm foundation in Jesus Christ. Family ministry activities include fitness activities, such as pickleball, comedy and movie nights, collection and distribution of Breakfast Bags for the Homeless through the Salvation Army.

Stephen Ministry

This program is designed to help those who go through difficult times, such as the loss of a loved one, loss of a job, illness, aging difficulties, and pregnancy and childbirth issues. Our Stephen Ministers receive up to fifty hours of counseling on topics such as making the first contact, listening skills, empathy with feelings, and confidentiality and information on specific difficulties people encounter. If you find yourself in a difficult life situation, and would be open to a Stephen Ministry Caregiver, please contact the church office 989-725-2201.

Prayer Quilts | Prayer Initiative

On request this group makes a small quilt for persons being treated for serious illnesses. Once complete the prayer quilt is displayed in the sanctuary where everyone is encouraged to tie a knot in the quilt while praying for the receiver.

You can also submit prayer requests or subscribe to our email list so you can pray with us for the needs of our community.

Music Ministry

Music ministry provides an outlet for musically inclined people to glorify God by using their gifts. Throughout the year our music ministry provides a bell choir, weekly worship opportunities, and times to gather and play instruments and sing together.
