“Journey to Bethlehem” Dec. 7, 2024, 5:30-9pm

“Journey to Bethlehem,” the 9-scene, drive-through living nativity first presented at First United Methodist Church Owosso in 1994, will mark its 30th anniversary presentation on Saturday, December 7, 2024. The nativity depicts events surrounding the birth of Jesus Christ using live animals and costumed actors, sets and lighting.  It’s an adaptation of the Stations of the Cross, set on a candlelit path which winds around the perimeter of the church.  The iconic 8’ Star of Bethlehem, mounted on the front of the church high above the manger scene, has been refurbished by its original builder and will shine again over the journey.

The original and ongoing purpose of presenting this living nativity was to provide a “holy moment” for visitors and participants alike; a shimmer in time when your circumstance or an event allows you to be open to the Holy Spirit, to experience with personal clarity God’s grace and love.  The true reason for the season.

According to chairperson Sharon Marsh, the living nativity has been presented many times over the years, has been viewed by thousands of people, and each year always involved hundreds of church and community volunteers of all ages. This year’s presentation is unique in that it is a gift to the community through the efforts of the Owosso Ministerial Association churches and other area volunteers.

“Journey to Bethlehem” will be presented one night only, 5:30 to 9:00pm on Saturday, December 7 at Owosso First United Methodist Church, which is located on North Water Street.  Travel on the “Journey” is limited to car or personal size van only.  The narrow path, lined with thousands of luminaries, will not accommodate larger vehicles or buses.  Entry into the “Journey” will be from northbound Washington Street only.  Traffic routes and entry points will be marked from M-52 and M-21.  Owosso Police and Community Radio Watch will assist in monitoring and directing traffic to keep cars moving at a reasonable pace and prevent traffic jams.

There is no admission charge for the Journey.  Free will donations will be accepted.
